Who we are

This website is operated by Sylwia Kowalska-Biggar, a UKCP-registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist practising under the name Your Internal Life. References to "I", "me" or "my" in this policy refer to Sylwia Kowalska-Biggar as the data controller.

If you have any questions about how your data is handled, you can contact me at sylwia@yourinternallife.com.

What information I collect

I collect information in the following ways:

Through the contact form: When you submit an enquiry via the contact form on this website, I receive your name, email address, and the content of your message. This is processed directly on the server and sent to my email address. No form data is stored by third parties.

Through email: If you contact me directly by email, I receive your email address and the content of your message.

Through website analytics: This website may use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics. No advertising tracking is used.

Cookies: This website uses only essential cookies required for the site to function. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are set.

How I use your information

Information you submit through the contact form or by email is used solely to respond to your enquiry and, if you become a client, to manage the therapeutic relationship. I do not use your contact details for marketing purposes, and I do not share them with third parties except where required by law.

Confidentiality in therapy

Everything discussed in therapy sessions is confidential. There are limited exceptions to this, as required by my professional and ethical obligations — for example, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or where I am required to act by law or court order. These exceptions are discussed at the start of therapy.

Confidentiality in therapy is governed by my professional obligations to the UKCP, not solely by data protection law. If you have questions about confidentiality, please raise them directly with me.

Data retention

Enquiry emails and contact form submissions are retained only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry. Client records are retained in accordance with UKCP guidelines and professional best practice. If you would like further information about how long specific data is held, please contact me.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access the personal data I hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request deletion of your data in certain circumstances, and to object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, please contact me at sylwia@yourinternallife.com.

If you have concerns about how I handle your data that I am unable to resolve, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
