Research consistently shows that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy for many people and many presenting concerns. What matters most is the quality of the therapeutic relationship and your willingness to engage with the work — not the medium through which sessions take place. Many people find that being in their own space during sessions adds a sense of comfort and privacy.
The first session is a 50-minute appointment at £75. We'll talk about what's brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and any questions you have about how I work. There's no preparation needed — you don't need to have a clear narrative or diagnosis. It's also an opportunity for both of us to sense whether we're a good fit to work together.
Sessions are held weekly at a regular agreed time. Weekly sessions provide the consistency that depth psychotherapy requires. If your circumstances change, we can discuss adjusting the frequency — but weekly is the usual starting point.
There's no fixed number of sessions. Some people work for several months and feel they've reached a natural pause; others continue for years. Psychoanalytic work is open-ended by nature — we review how things are going together, but the pace and duration are yours to determine.
Counselling is typically shorter-term and focused on a specific issue or life event. Psychotherapy — particularly psychoanalytic psychotherapy — is longer-term and depth-oriented, interested in unconscious patterns and how past experiences shape the present. Psychoanalysis is the most intensive form, often involving multiple sessions per week. The work I offer is psychoanalytic psychotherapy: depth work, held weekly.
No. You don't need a referral, a GP diagnosis, or any formal label to begin. Most people who come to me aren't in crisis and don't have a clear diagnosis — they're functioning adults carrying something that hasn't shifted. If you do have a diagnosis, that's fine too — but it's not a requirement.
Yes, with very limited exceptions. What you share in sessions is confidential. The exceptions — required by law and professional ethics — are if there's a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if a court orders disclosure. I'll explain the limits of confidentiality clearly at the start of our work together.
Sessions are £75 for 50 minutes. A free 15-minute introductory call is available before your first session. Payment is by bank transfer. Details will be provided when we confirm your first appointment.
Not every therapist is right for every person — and that's completely normal. If after the first session either of us feels it's not the right match, I'll do my best to signpost you to alternative support. There's no obligation to continue.
Yes. You're not committing to a fixed course of treatment. If you want to pause or end therapy, we can discuss that openly. Ending well — rather than simply disappearing — is usually helpful for both of us, but you're always free to stop.
No. I work exclusively with individual adults. I don't work with couples, and I don't work with people under their late twenties. This isn't a judgment — it's about working within the areas where I can offer the most focused, useful help.
I don't currently maintain a formal waiting list. Get in touch and I'll let you know my current availability — if I'm not able to take new patients at the moment, I'll do my best to point you in a helpful direction.
